A Remarkably Safe Dental Office From Ebola Part 2: Sterilization

Safe Dental OfficeIn our last post, we discussed additional precautionary measures that Remarkable Grins has implemented in response the recent outbreak of the Ebola Virus based upon the history and facts of the disease.

Today, we will review the cornerstone of our infection control practices – namely the sterilization of dental instruments.

Our office is equipped with a state-of-the-art, automated autoclave that effectively sterilizes our dental instruments. Each individual pouch of instruments that are placed in the machine has an indicator to be sure that the autoclave has reached appropriate temperature. Most critically, every week our machine is validated through an independent testing laboratory to ensure that the autoclave is achieving sterilization. This is done by what is called spore testing, which is the industry standard for verification of sterilization.

Rest assured that this protocol for sterilization and monitoring of our autoclave has ALWAYS been our standard operating procedure.
The last thing on a dental patient’s mind should be concern over the cleanliness and sterilization of the equipment. Rest assured that Dr. Ciuffreda and his staff are committed to the highest levels of infection control so you can focus on your oral health and creating – or keeping – your remarkable grin.
